Screamals is a casual reflex game with a music theme. You control a character who can stretch and change shape to get around obstacles while also collecting musical notes along the way. It might seem easy, but the more you play, the more you discover that it's not just about avoiding dangers. It seems like moving to a different rhythmic pulse, where everything you do has to match the flow of the level.

Screamals GamePlay

Screamals' gameplay is rather easy to understand. You may change the shape of your character by dragging your mouse or swiping up and down. You can make them tall and thin to fit through small spaces or short and wide to duck under things that are above them. The speed is what makes it hard. There are always problems that come up, so there isn't much time to think about them. You have to watch quickly and change your shape practically right away. If you wait even a second, you'll crash into something.

There is a system of musical notes spread out around the game that runs alongside the dodging mechanics. These do two things: they keep track of your score and they provide you the energy you need to finish the game.

Rhythm and Musical Notes

Screamals is different from most other dodge games because it combines collecting notes with moving to the beat. You aren't just rushing through the level; you're always thinking about whether to play it safe or go off the beaten route to get more notes.
This feeling gets stronger as you go along: every little choice affects the overall flow of the game, making it feel less like a series of separate events and more like a chain of reflexes.

The Scream Feature

You build up enough energy to let out a scream at the conclusion of the level once you've accumulated enough musical notes. This is when your character lets out a strong sonic blast to either beat a boss or get through the last, toughest hurdle. This feature gives each game a unique and rewarding ending. From the beginning, when you dodge and collect, every move leads up to a big moment of energy release at the finale.

Screamals is all about reflexes, being able to see things, and being able to change rapidly to fit any situation. Sometimes you play perfectly, moving through a succession of obstacles without missing a beat. Other times, though, a single delayed form switch makes you start again from the very beginning.
