Orbit Beats is a minimalist rhythm game focused on a single mechanic: clicking in sync with the beat. That is easy enough, until two planets begin to spin along spiral routes at even more breakneck speeds.

The game takes you on a trip leading two planets Fire and Ice along weird geometric orbital patterns across space.
Each planet has its own pace and obstacles, so it feels like you are travelling through different sonic landscapes.
Every click moves the two planets one step along their route. The problem is that these routes are always changing, zigzagging or winding into unanticipated patterns.
Orbit Beats treats sound as an intrinsic part of the gameplay experience, not as window dressing like the background music in many arcade games. If you attempt to play by eye only, you will easily lose your beat. But as you start to listen to the rhythm and click automatically, the game flows much smoother.
Orbit Beats is not a particularly spectacular rhythm game, but it does a good job of keeping you in a constant state of intense focus. It provides a nice calm melodic vibe, but at the same time is frustratingly challenging in the level of precision it requires. And it’s this balance that makes the game way more fun than its minimalistic appearance would lead you to believe.
