Sprunki Phase 17 is a heavily horror-themed mod that pushes the Sprunki world far beyond its familiar boundaries. From the very first seconds, the game feels like you've accidentally opened a lost archive – where everything is unclear, unsafe, and something… is spreading.
No longer a clear, linear story, Phase 17 is like a slice of a world infected with a disease. Characters appear in grotesque forms: Orin has fangs, Ratty has glowing mushrooms growing on his head, and Clucker splits into pieces with strange symbols appearing all over his body.
Everything suggests that something is spreading – not just physically, but also to the very nature of each character.
A recurring detail throughout is the image of Darpool (or variations of it) appearing in the mouths or bodies of many characters. Gray seems to have swallowed a miniature version of it, and Mr. Sun and other characters also bear similar markings.
This creates an underlying hypothesis: Is Darpool the source of the transformation? Or is it simply a symbol of the spreading corruption? The game doesn't explicitly explain, but this ambiguity makes everything even more terrifying.
The gameplay retains Sprunki's familiar drag-and-drop mechanism. Players choose characters and combine them to create music.
However, this experience is more psychologically challenging. Each added character not only adds sound but also increases the sense of unease. You're no longer simply building a piece of music, but rather exploring a crumbling world step by step.
The music in Phase 17 has a distinctly eerie feel. Repetitive sounds, distorted background noise, and unstable rhythms create a hypnotic sensation. The visuals also contribute significantly: eyes appear everywhere, vines grow, faces overlap… all creating an experience that is both captivating and oppressive. In particular, the character movements are quite smooth, making the distortions feel more realistic, thus increasing the unsettling effect.
Sprunki Phase 17 is not an easy mod to get into. It doesn't explain much, doesn't offer clear guidance, but throws the player into a completely transformed world. But that's precisely its strength. It's an experience of exploration and feeling, where fear stems from what you can't fully understand.
