Sprunki Too Cruel Update expands upon the original Too Cruel version with a host of new character designs, additional lore, and a series of secret cutscenes centering on Roa, Orin, and Pinky. Alongside the familiar Sprunki audio style, this update places greater emphasis on the backstories of the characters.
One of the new features is a secret code system linked to the Gallery. Underlined information found at the end of the Gallery serves as clues for discovering these codes. Entering the correct code unlocks a special cutscene that reveals more of the story.
The characters in the Too Cruel Update bear visible signs of injury and unusual transformations. Orin appears with a traffic sign embedded in his face; a later cutscene reveals that he crashed into the sign while driving under the influence. Clucker is found trapped in a tree, while Gray appears in a dark setting with noticeable visual changes. Oax wears Black's hat.
Many designs are not isolated but linked to one another. Certain characters utilize or carry objects associated with others—such as Oax wearing Black's hat and Tunner holding Clucker's cane. Jevin appears inside a coffin-like box, while Black is seen in scenes involving other characters. These details transform the character lineup into an integral part of the narrative rather than mere decoration.
Upon unlocking the secret cutscene, the story shifts to Roa. She recounts encountering a strange creature before waking up—a being she inexplicably trusted. Roa harbors feelings for Orin but is aware that he is with Pinky. Initially, Roa still viewed Pinky as a friend and had no desire to hurt her.
However, a mysterious entity began to influence Roa, urging her to inflict suffering on Pinky and to claim Orin entirely for herself.
Vineria tried to help Roa calm down by letting her stay at her home. Yet, the dynamic between them shifted rapidly as Roa fell increasingly under the sway of the entity's words.
Roa set her plan in motion but killed Brud instead of Pinky. The mysterious entity reminded her that Pinky remained the true target. Subsequently, Vineria was also killed. Finally, Pinky became the victim. A funeral was held where the characters paid their respects, remembering Pinky as a beloved chef. The story illustrates how Roa’s scheme transformed the relationships between the characters into a violent chain of events.
The Too Cruel update hides a code within the Gallery section. Players are guided to view the end of the Gallery and pay attention to underlined segments; these serve as clues to piece together the code, rather than presenting it directly on the screen. Entering the code unlocks a special cutscene. This sequence focuses on Roa, explaining the events that transpired before she initiated her plot against Pinky.
The cutscene also clarifies details previously hinted at in the character lineup. For instance, the image of Orin with a traffic sign is explained by a scene showing him getting into an accident after driving while intoxicated.
Beyond the lore and character designs, "Too Cruel" retains the audio-mixing mechanics of Sprunki. Players can place characters into the mix and experiment with various audio variations.
A notable feature of this update is how the audio elements coexist with the secret content layer. Players can both build lineups using the characters and search for clues in the Gallery to unlock the stories behind Too Cruel.
